Dextropropoxyphene, as an opioid analgesic, exerts its effects by interacting with opioid receptors in the central nervous system. Specifically, it acts as a mu-opioid receptor agonist, similar to other opioids such as morphine or codeine.

When dextropropoxyphene binds to mu-opioid receptors, it activates them, leading to various pharmacological effects. The activation of these receptors inhibits the release of neurotransmitters such as substance P, which is involved in transmitting pain signals.

By reducing the release of substance P and other neurotransmitters, dextropropoxyphene decreases the transmission of pain signals in the spinal cord and brain. This ultimately results in a reduction in the perception of pain and provides analgesic effects.

It is worth noting that dextropropoxyphene has additional effects on other opioid receptors, such as kappa and delta receptors, but its affinity for these receptors is relatively lower compared to mu-opioid receptors.

The daily dosage shall not exceed 300mg of Dextropropoxyphene per day and to be taken under the prescription of your doctor or a registered medical professional.
